Say Hello to Little Ellie!
Little Ellie had a family, or so the story goes. But when they moved, they simply abandoned this heartbroken and pregnant puppy to survive on her own. Poor Ellie spent weeks dodging cars, motorcycles, abuse from strangers, and competition for scraps from other homeless dogs. Finally, this lovely young woman learned of Ellie's situation. A new mother herself, Serrana could not allow this tragedy to continue and she drove many miles to bring Ellie to us. Ellie arrived covered in ticks and fleas, but Serrana stayed and helped bath her after which, she was treated for pests. Now Ellie can bring her babies into a clean, healthy and loving environment.
Ellie's belly was getting way too big. If she were pregnant from a larger breed, she might have trouble delivering naturally. A consultation with our vet was in order. After examining Ellie yesterday, Dr. Lopez said that she is comfortable with letting Ellie try to deliver naturally. While a cesarean section may be easiest for Ellie, the gestation period is so short and the risk of performing the surgery even a few days too early is risky. She has promised to be available at any hour should complications arise.

As is typical for street dogs, Ellie arrived full of fear, unable to relax. But after some reassurance from RR, Ellie began to believe in us. There is no species more grateful and after some tail waggin' "thank yous" from this precious gal, Ellie fell sound asleep. Ellie is due any time now, so stay tuned and help welcome her new pups.
